    It&#039;s called the fifth printing, but that is a bit of a misnomer. These days the actual physical printings are done in small runs in multiples of six. It is really more like the fifth &amp;ldquo;edit.&amp;rdquo;&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
In practice, corrections have been made to each new edit while its previous edit was running. After five edits, there have been hundreds of corrections.  The issues addressed have included a lot of out-of-place commas, over-used hyphens, typos, and more grammar errors than I&#039;d like to admit.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
How do you know you&#039;ve got the fifth (or better) printing?&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;

If it reads &amp;ldquo;54795&amp;rdquo; (USD $47.95) you have the fifth or better edit.&lt;br /&gt;

This learning method is based on the notion that&amp;mdash;like their collective counterparts&amp;mdash;neurons may be attracted to, and occasionally repulsed by, the exercise of influence by others. In the case of neurons, the &quot;others&quot; would be other neurons.  As simple as that notion sounds, it produces a learning method with a number of interesting benefits and advantages over the current crop of learning algorithms.&lt;br /&gt;

The norm is for neurons to see influential forward neurons as positive role models, but neurons may also see influential forward neurons as negative role models.&lt;br /&gt;

It is a simple, new, method based on a simple, almost axiomatic, observation, and it can be implemented with relatively little computational power.&lt;br /&gt;

This book describes Netlab &lt;sup&gt;&lt;span style=&quot;font-style:italic&quot;&gt;Loligo&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/sup&gt;, which is conceptually, a device-oriented breadboard system for neural network design and development.   There is a Matlab tool-kit with the same name out there. Don&#039;t let that fool you. Netlab is different. It is decidedly &lt;u&gt;&lt;b&gt;NOT&lt;/b&gt;&lt;/u&gt; just another attempt to mathematically extend existing data-points collected from 20-year-old laboratory observations.
 &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;

The book describes my attempt, as a programmer,  to abstract (for the purpose of implementing on a computer) some of the knowledge and understanding gained in Cell and Molecular Neurobiology. It also describes, in general terms, the resulting suite of software utilities (a device-description language compiler, “linker”, and runtime), which I am currently working to make available through a web-based application.

I just received the block via email from Bowker, the U.S. ISBN agency.  It&#039;s official. I&#039;m now a bona fide publisher.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Next stop, registering at the Library of Congress for their Preasigned Control Number program.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Then it&#039;s off to get a bar-code&lt;br /&gt;
